Chapter 2
The falling-away. The man of sin

Let not anyone deceive you according to any manner, because unless the falling-away comes first and the man of the sin is unveiled, the son of the destruction, the one opposing and lifting himself upon everything being called God or an object-of-worship.

1 And we ask you, brothers, on behalf of the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering-upon unto him,

2 unto the you not quickly to be shaken from the mind nor to be alarmed, neither through spirit nor through word nor through a letter as through us, as that the day of the Christ has stood-in.

3 Let not anyone deceive you according to any manner, because unless the falling-away comes first and the man of the sin is unveiled, the son of the destruction,

4 the one opposing and lifting himself upon everything being called God or an object-of-worship, so as for him to sit down into the sanctuary of God as God, showing himself that he is God.

5 Do you not remember that, still being toward you, I was saying these things to you?

6 And now you know the thing holding-down, unto the him to be unveiled in his own season.

7 For the mystery of the lawlessness already is in-working; only the one holding-down now, until he comes to be out of the midst.

8 And then the lawless one will be unveiled, whom the Lord will consume with the spirit of his mouth and will render-idle with the appearing of his presence,

9 whose presence is according to an in-working of Satan in all power and signs and wonders of a lie,

10 and in all deceit of the unrighteousness in those perishing, against which they did not receive the love of the truth unto the them to be saved.

11 And through this God will send to them an in-working of wandering, unto the them to believe the lie,

12 that all those not having believed the truth but having thought-well in the unrighteousness may be judged.

13 And we ought to give-thanks to God always concerning you, brothers having-been-loved by Lord, that God chose you from a beginning unto salvation in holiness of Spirit and faith of truth,

14 unto which he called you through our gospel, unto an acquisition of glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Therefore then, brothers, stand and hold-fast the givings-over which you were taught, whether through word or through our letter.

16 And our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, the one having loved us and having given an age-long calling-alongside and a good hope in grace,

17 may call your hearts alongside and establish you in every good word and work.
