Chapter 6

Godliness with self-sufficiency. Fight the good fight

Struggle the good struggle of the faith; seize-upon the age-long life, unto which you were called and confessed the good confession before many witnesses.

¹ As many as are slaves under a yoke, let them lead their own lords worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the teaching may not be blasphemed.

² And those having faithful lords, let them not despise them because they are brothers, but rather let them slave, because they are faithful and beloved, the ones taking-hold-upon of the well-working. These things teach and call-alongside.

³ If anyone teaches-other-things and does not come-toward to healthy words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the teaching according to godliness,

⁴ he has been puffed, knowing nothing, but being sick concerning questionings and word-fights, out of which comes envy, strife, blasphemies, evil suspicions,

⁵ rubbings-through of men having been thoroughly-destroyed the mind and having been deprived of the truth, considering the godliness to be a means-of-gain. Stand-away from such ones.

⁶ And a great means-of-gain is the godliness with self-sufficiency.

⁷ For we brought nothing into the world, it is clear that neither are we able to carry anything out;

⁸ and having nourishments and coverings, with these we will be self-sufficient.

⁹ And those willing to be rich fall into a testing and a snare and many unminded and harmful desires, which sink the men into destruction and ruin.

¹⁰ For a root of all the evils is the love-of-silver, of which some, stretching-after, were led-away from the faith and pierced themselves around with many griefs.

¹¹ And you, O man of God, flee these things; and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, remaining-under, meekness.

¹² Struggle the good struggle of the faith; seize-upon the age-long life, unto which you were called and confessed the good confession before many witnesses.

¹³ I charge you before God, the one making-alive the all things, and Christ Jesus, the one having witnessed upon Pontius Pilate the good confession,

¹⁴ to keep the commandment unspotted, unaccused, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁵ which in own seasons the blessed and only Dynast will show, the King of those being kings and Lord of those being lords,

¹⁶ the one alone having immortality, dwelling unapproachable light, whom no one of men saw nor is able to see, to whom honor and age-long might. Amen.

¹⁷ To the rich in the now age charge not to be high-minded, nor to have hoped upon uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, the one furnishing to us all things richly unto enjoyment,

¹⁸ to work-good, to be rich in good works, to be well-giving, sharers,

¹⁹ treasuring-away for themselves a good foundation unto the about to be, that they may seize-upon the age-long life.

²⁰ O Timothy, guard the deposit, turning-away from the profane empty-voices and oppositions of the falsely-named knowledge,

²¹ which some, announcing, missed-the-mark concerning the faith. The grace with you. Amen.
