Chapter 5

Elders. Widows. Do not lay hands quickly

Let the elders having stood-before well be counted-worthy of double honor, especially those laboring in word and teaching.

¹ Do not strike-upon an elder, but call-alongside as a father, younger men as brothers,

² elder women as mothers, younger as sisters, in all purity.

³ Honor widows, the ones being truly widows.

⁴ And if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to be pious toward the own house and to give-back recompenses to the progenitors; for this is good and acceptable before God.

⁵ And the one being truly a widow and having been left-alone has hoped upon God and remains-toward the petitions and the prayers night and day;

⁶ and the one living-luxuriously, while living, has died.

⁷ And these things command, that they may be unaccused.

⁸ And if anyone does not provide-for the own, and especially household-members, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

⁹ Let a widow be enrolled not less than sixty years, having become a woman of one man,

¹⁰ being witnessed in good works, if she nourished-children, if she was hospitable, if she washed feet of holy ones, if she helped-upon ones being pressured, if she followed-upon every good work.

¹¹ And younger widows refuse; for whenever they grow-luxurious against the Christ, they will to marry,

¹² having a judgment because they set-aside the first faith;

¹³ and at the same time also they learn to be idle, going-around the houses, and not only idle but also gossips and workers-around, speaking the things not necessary.

¹⁴ I will therefore younger to marry, to bear-children, to house-despot, to give no starting-point to the one opposing on behalf of a reviling.

¹⁵ For already some turned-out after Satan.

¹⁶ If any faithful man or faithful woman has widows, let him help-upon them, and let the church not be weighed, that it may help-upon the ones being truly widows.

¹⁷ Let the elders having stood-before well be counted-worthy of double honor, especially those laboring in word and teaching.

¹⁸ For the writing says, You shall not muzzle an ox threshing, and, Worthy is the worker of his wage.

¹⁹ Against an elder do not receive an accusation except upon two or three witnesses.

²⁰ Those sinning expose before all, that also the remaining may have fear.

²¹ I witness-through before God and Lord Jesus Christ and the chosen angels, that you may guard these things apart from pre-judgment, doing nothing according to inclination.

²² Lay hands quickly on no one, nor share-with in sins of others; keep yourself pure.

²³ No longer drink-water, but use a little wine through the stomach and your frequent weaknesses.

²⁴ Of some men the sins are clearly-before, leading-before unto judgment, and of some also they follow-after.

²⁵ Likewise also the good works are clearly-before, and the ones having otherwise are not able to be hidden.
