Holding-fast the faithful word according to the teaching, that he may be able both to call-alongside in the healthy teaching and to expose those speaking-against.

1 Paul, a slave of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ according to faith of chosen of God and a full-knowledge of truth, the one according to godliness,

2 upon a hope of age-long life, which God, the one not lying, promised before times age-long,

3 and manifested his word in own seasons in a proclamation, with which I was trusted according to a command of our Savior God,

4 to Titus, genuine child according to a common faith: grace, mercy, peace from God Father and Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

5 For this grace I left you down in Crete, that you may set-in-order the things lacking and may establish elders in each city, as I commanded you:

6 if anyone is unaccused, a man of one woman, having faithful children, not in an accusation of unsavingness or unarranged.

7 For it is necessary for the overseer to be unaccused as a household-manager of God, not self-pleasing, not wrathful, not a wine-lingerer, not a striker, not seeking-shameful-gain,

8 but hospitable, a lover-of-good, sound-minded, righteous, holy, self-controlled,

9 holding-fast the faithful word according to the teaching, that he may be able both to call-alongside in the healthy teaching and to expose those speaking-against.

10 For many also are unarranged, empty-talkers and mind-deceivers, especially those out of the circumcision,

11 whom it is necessary to stop-up the mouths, who overturn whole houses, teaching what things it is not necessary, for the sake of shameful gain.

12 A certain one of them, their own prophet, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle bellies.

13 This testimony is true. Through which cause expose them sharply, that they may be healthy in the faith,

14 not holding-toward Jewish myths and commandments of men turning-away from the truth.

15 All things are clean to the clean; and to the ones having been stained and unfaithful nothing is clean, but both their mind and conscience have been stained.

16 They confess to know God, and in the works they deny, being abominable and unpersuaded and toward every good work unapproved.
