Chapter 2

Titus. Cephas. I live in faith

I have been crucified-with Christ; and I no longer live, and Christ lives in me; and what I now live in flesh, I live in faith, the one of the Son of God, the one having loved me and having given himself over on behalf of me.

¹ Thereafter through fourteen years I went up again into Jerusalem with Barnabas, having taken-along also Titus.

² And I went up according to an unveiling, and I placed-up to them the gospel which I proclaim in the nations, and privately to those seeming, lest somehow I run or ran into empty.

³ But not even Titus, the one with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised;

⁴ and that through the brought-in-beside false brothers, who came-in-beside to spy-out our freedom which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might enslave us;

⁵ to whom we did not yield-under, no, toward an hour, that the truth of the gospel might remain-through toward you.

⁶ And from those seeming to be something — of what sort they were once it differs nothing to me; God does not receive a face of a man — for to me those seeming added nothing;

⁷ but on the contrary, having seen that I have been trusted the gospel of the uncircumcision, according as Peter of the circumcision —

⁸ for the one having in-worked in Peter unto an apostleship of the circumcision in-worked also in me toward the nations —

⁹ and having known the grace, the one having been given to me, James and Cephas and John, the ones seeming to be pillars, gave right hands of fellowship to me and Barnabas, that we unto the nations, and they unto the circumcision;

¹⁰ only that we should remember the poor, which also I was eager this same to do.

¹¹ And when Cephas came into Antioch, I stood against him to face, because he was having been known.

¹² For before some to come from James, he was eating-with with the nations; and when they came, he was drawing-under and marking himself off, fearing those out of circumcision.

¹³ And the remaining Jews also hypocrisied-with him, so as even Barnabas to be led-away-with by their hypocrisy.

¹⁴ But when I saw that they do not walk-straight toward the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before all, If you, being a Jew, live nationally and not Jewishly, how do you compel the nations to judaize?

¹⁵ We by nature Jews and not sinners out of nations,

¹⁶ having known that a man is not justified out of works of law except through faith of Jesus Christ, even we believed unto Christ Jesus, that we might be justified out of faith of Christ and not out of works of law, because out of works of law all flesh will not be justified.

¹⁷ And if seeking to be justified in Christ we ourselves also were found sinners, is then Christ a servant of sin? May it not come to be.

¹⁸ For if I build again these things which I loosed-down, I stand myself together a transgressor.

¹⁹ For I through law died to law, that I might live to God.

²⁰ I have been crucified-with Christ; and I no longer live, and Christ lives in me; and what I now live in flesh, I live in faith, the one of the Son of God, the one having loved me and having given himself over on behalf of me.

²¹ I do not unsettle the grace of God; for if through law is righteousness, then Christ died freely.
