Seven. Stephen

And Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing wonders and great signs among the people.

¹ And in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came to be a murmuring of the Hellenists toward the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily service.

² And the Twelve, having called the multitude of the disciples toward them, said, “It is not pleasing that we, having left the word of God, should serve tables.

³ Look out therefore, brothers, seven men out of you, being witnessed, full of Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we will appoint over this need.

⁴ And we will continue in the prayer and in the service of the word.”

⁵ And the word was pleasing before all the multitude; and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch,

⁶ whom they stood before the apostles; and having prayed they placed the hands on them.

⁷ And the word of God was growing, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem was being multiplied greatly, and a great crowd of the priests were obeying the faith.

⁸ And Stephen, full of faith and power, was doing wonders and great signs among the people.

⁹ And there stood up certain of those out of the synagogue being called of Freedmen, and of Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, questioning with Stephen.

¹⁰ And they were not strong to stand against the wisdom and the Spirit by which he was speaking.

¹¹ Then they threw-under men saying that “We have heard him speaking blasphemous words toward Moses and God.”

¹² And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and having stood upon they seized him and led him into the council,

¹³ and they stood false witnesses saying, “This man does not cease speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the law;

¹⁴ for we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarene will loosen this place and will change the customs which Moses gave over to us.”

¹⁵ And all those sitting in the council, having gazed into him, saw his face as if a face of an angel.
