1 And a certain man, Ananias by name, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession
2 and kept-back from the price, the wife also being conscious, and having brought a certain part he placed it beside the feet of the apostles.
3 And Peter said, “Ananias, why did Satan fill your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep-back from the price of the field?
4 Remaining, did it not remain to you, and sold, was it not in your jurisdiction? Why did you place this deed in your heart? You did not lie to men, but to God.”
5 And Ananias, hearing these words, having fallen, expired; and great fear came to be upon all those hearing these things.
6 And the younger men, having stood up, wrapped him and, having carried out, buried him.
7 And it came to be as an interval of about three hours, and his wife, not knowing the thing that had come to be, entered.
8 And Peter answered toward her, “Tell me if you sold the field for so much.” And she said, “Yes, for so much.”
9 And Peter said toward her, “Why is it that you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who buried your husband are upon the door, and they will carry you out.”
10 And she fell immediately toward his feet and expired; and the young men, having entered, found her dead, and having carried out they buried her toward her husband.
11 And great fear came to be upon the whole assembly and upon all those hearing these things.
12 And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were coming to be among the people; and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
13 And of the remaining no one was daring to be glued to them, but the people were magnifying them;
14 and more believers were being added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,
15 so that they were carrying out the weak into the streets and placing them upon beds and pallets, that, Peter coming, even the shadow might overshadow some one of them.
16 And the multitude of the surrounding cities also was coming together into Jerusalem, bringing weak ones and those being crowded by unclean spirits, who were all being healed.
17 And the high priest, having stood up, and all those with him—being the sect of the Sadducees—were filled of jealousy
18 and threw their hands upon the apostles and put them in public keeping.
19 But an angel of the Lord through the night opened the doors of the prison and, having led them out, said,
20 “Go, and having stood, speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.”
21 And having heard they entered under the dawn into the temple and were teaching. And the high priest having come, and those with him, they called together the council and all the eldership of the sons of Israel, and sent to the prison for them to be brought.
22 But the officers, having arrived, did not find them in the prison; and having returned they reported,
23 saying that “We found the prison shut in all security and the guards standing before the doors, but having opened we found no one inside.”
24 And as both the priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were thoroughly-at-a-loss concerning them, what this might come to be.
25 And someone having arrived reported to them that “Behold, the men whom you put in the prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.”
26 Then the captain, having gone away with the officers, was leading them, not with violence, for they were fearing the people, lest they be stoned.
27 And having led them they stood them in the council. And the high priest asked them,
28 saying, “Did we not charge you with a charge not to teach upon this name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem of your teaching, and you wish to bring upon us the blood of this man.”
29 And answering Peter and the apostles said, “It is necessary to obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you laid hands on, having hanged upon a wood.
31 This one God lifted as Originator and Savior to his right, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these words, and the Holy Spirit also, whom God gave to those obeying him.”
33 And they, having heard, were being sawn-through and were counseling to take them away.
34 But a certain one, having stood up in the council, a Pharisee, Gamaliel by name, a teacher of the law honored by all the people, commanded to make the apostles outside a little,
35 and said toward them, “Men, Israelites, take heed to yourselves upon these men, what you are about to practice.
36 For before these days Theudas stood up, saying himself to be someone, to whom a number of men were inclined, about four hundred; who was taken away, and all as many as were being persuaded by him were loosened and came to nothing.
37 After this Judas the Galilean stood up in the days of the registration and drew away a sufficient people after him; that one also perished, and all as many as were being persuaded by him were scattered.
38 And the things now I say to you, stand away from these men and leave them; because if this counsel or this work is out of men, it will be loosened;
39 but if it is out of God, you are not able to loosen it, lest you even be found God-fighters.”
40 And they were persuaded by him; and having called the apostles, having beaten, they charged not to speak upon the name of Jesus, and released them.
41 They therefore were going, rejoicing from the face of the council, because they were counted worthy to be dishonored over the name.
42 And every day, in the temple and according to house, they were not ceasing teaching and announcing-good-news of Jesus the Christ.
