Chapter 2

A good soldier. Rightly-cutting the word

Be eager to present yourself approved to God, a worker unashamed, rightly-cutting the word of the truth.

¹ You therefore, my child, be empowered in the grace, the one in Christ Jesus,

² and what things you heard from me through many witnesses, these place-alongside to faithful men, who will be sufficient also others to teach.

³ You therefore suffer-evil as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

⁴ No one soldiering is entangled with the practices of the living, that he may please the one having soldiered him.

⁵ And if also anyone struggles, he is not crowned unless he struggles lawfully.

⁶ The laboring farmer must first take-share of the fruits.

⁷ Understand what I say; for the Lord will give to you understanding in all things.

⁸ Remember Jesus Christ, having been raised out of dead ones, out of seed of David, according to my gospel,

⁹ in which I suffer-evil until bonds as an evildoer; but the word of God has not been bound.

¹⁰ Through this I remain-under all things through the chosen, that also they may obtain salvation, the one in Christ Jesus, with age-long glory.

¹¹ Faithful is the word: For if we died-with, we will also live-with;

¹² if we remain-under, we will also reign-with; if we deny, that one also will deny us;

¹³ if we are unfaithful, that one remains faithful; he is not able to deny himself.

¹⁴ These things remind, witnessing-through before the Lord not to word-fight unto nothing useful, upon a catastrophe of those hearing.

¹⁵ Be eager to present yourself approved to God, a worker unashamed, rightly-cutting the word of the truth.

¹⁶ And the profane empty-voices stand-around; for they will cut-forward upon more ungodliness,

¹⁷ and their word will have pasture as a gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus,

¹⁸ who concerning the truth missed-the-mark, saying the standing-up already to have come to be, and they overturn the faith of some.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the firm foundation of God has stood, having this seal: The Lord knew those being his, and, Let everyone naming the name of Christ stand-away from unrighteousness.

²⁰ And in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver but also of wood and of clay, and some unto honor, and some unto dishonor.

²¹ If therefore anyone cleanses himself from these, he will be a vessel unto honor, having been sanctified, well-useful to the despot, having been prepared unto every good work.

²² And the youthful desires flee, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those calling-upon the Lord out of a clean heart.

²³ And the foolish and uninstructed questionings refuse, knowing that they generate fights.

²⁴ And a slave of Lord must not fight, but be gentle toward all, able-to-teach, holding-up-under-evil,

²⁵ in meekness training those opposing, if perhaps God may give them a change-of-mind unto a full-knowledge of truth,

²⁶ and they may sober-up out of the snare of the slanderer, having been captured-alive by him unto the that-one’s will.
