Earthen vessels. Dying of Jesus. Age-long weight

Key verse — 2 Corinthians 4:7
And we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the throwing-beyond of the power may be of God and not out of us.

1 Through this, having this service, according as we were mercied, we do not give-out-badly,

2 but we spoke-off the hidden things of the shame, not walking in craftiness nor adulterating the word of God, but by the manifestation of the truth standing ourselves together toward every conscience of men before God.

3 And if even our gospel is having been covered, it is having been covered in those perishing,

4 in whom the god of this age blinded the thoughts of the unfaithful, unto the not shining to them the lighting of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is image of God.

5 For we do not proclaim ourselves but Christ Jesus Lord, and ourselves your slaves through Jesus.

6 Because God, the one having said, Out of darkness light will shine, who shone in our hearts toward lighting of the knowledge of the glory of God in face of Jesus Christ.

7 And we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the throwing-beyond of the power may be of God and not out of us;

8 in every way being pressured but not being cramped, being without-a-way but not utterly-without-a-way,

9 being persecuted but not being left-behind, being thrown-down but not being destroyed,

10 always carrying-around the dying of the Lord Jesus in the body, that also the life of Jesus may be manifested in our body.

11 For we the living are always being given-over unto death through Jesus, that also the life of Jesus may be manifested in our dying flesh.

12 So that the death is in-working in us, and the life in you.

13 And having the same spirit of the faith, according as it has been written, I believed, wherefore I spoke, we also believe, wherefore we also speak,

14 knowing that the one having raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also through Jesus and will present us with you.

15 For the all things are through you, that the grace, having abounded through the more, may cause the thanksgiving to abound unto the glory of God.

16 Wherefore we do not give-out-badly; but if even our outer man is being thoroughly-corrupted, yet the inner one is being renewed day by day.

17 For the momentary light thing of our pressure is working-down for us, according to a throwing-beyond unto a throwing-beyond, an age-long weight of glory,

18 we not looking the things being looked but the things not being looked; for the things being looked are timed, and the things not being looked are age-long.

2 Note — v. 10. TR: τὴν νέκρωσιν τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ. “the dying of the Lord Jesus.”
