Chapter 11

Another Jesus. A fool’s boast

And I fear lest somehow, as the serpent thoroughly-deceived Eve in his craftiness, thus your thoughts may be corrupted from the simplicity, the one unto the Christ.

¹ Would that you were holding-up with me a little in the unmind; but also hold-up with me.

² For I am jealous over you with a jealousy of God; for I joined you to one husband, to present a pure virgin to the Christ.

³ And I fear lest somehow, as the serpent thoroughly-deceived Eve in his craftiness, thus your thoughts may be corrupted from the simplicity, the one unto the Christ.

⁴ For if the one coming proclaims another Jesus whom we did not proclaim, or you receive another spirit which you did not receive, or another gospel which you did not receive, you hold-up well.

⁵ For I reckon to have lacked-behind nothing of the over-exceeding apostles.

⁶ And if even I am untrained in word, yet not in knowledge; but in everything we having been manifested in all things toward you.

⁷ Or did I do a sin, lowering myself that you might be lifted, because I gospelized to you the gospel of God freely?

⁸ Other churches I robbed, having taken a wage toward the service of you;

⁹ and being present toward you and having lacked, I was a burden to no one; for my lack the brothers, having come from Macedonia, filled-up; and in everything I kept myself unburdensome to you, and I will keep.

¹⁰ The truth of Christ is in me, that this boast will not be fenced for me in the regions of Achaia.

¹¹ Why? Because I do not love you? God knows.

¹² And what I do, I will also do, that I may cut-out the starting-point of those willing a starting-point, that in what they boast they may be found also according as we.

¹³ For such are false apostles, workers deceitful, changing-form into apostles of Christ.

¹⁴ And no wonder; for Satan himself changes-form into an angel of light.

¹⁵ It is no great thing therefore if also his servants change-form as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

¹⁶ I say again, let no one think me to be unminded; and if not, even as an unminded one receive me, that I also may boast a little.

¹⁷ What I speak, I do not speak according to Lord, but as in unmind, in this standing-under of the boasting.

¹⁸ Since many boast according to the flesh, I also will boast.

¹⁹ For you hold-up with the unminded gladly, being prudent;

²⁰ for you hold-up if anyone enslaves you, if anyone eats you down, if anyone takes, if anyone lifts himself, if anyone strikes you into the face.

²¹ According to dishonor I speak, as that we were weak. And in whatever anyone dares — in unmind I speak — I also dare.

²² Hebrews are they? I also. Israelites are they? I also. Seed of Abraham are they? I also.

²³ Servants of Christ are they? — I speak being-beside-myself — I more: in labors more abundantly, in blows above measure, in prisons more abundantly, in deaths often.

²⁴ From Jews five times I received forty besides one;

²⁵ three times I was beaten-with-rods, once I was stoned, three times I shipwrecked, a night-and-day I have done in the deep;

²⁶ in journeys often, in dangers of rivers, in dangers of robbers, in dangers out of race, in dangers out of nations, in dangers in city, in dangers in wilderness, in dangers in sea, in dangers in false brothers;

²⁷ in labor and hardship, in sleeplessnesses often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness;

²⁸ apart from the things besides, the pressure upon me according to a day, the anxiety of all the churches.

²⁹ Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is caused-to-stumble, and I am not burned?

³⁰ If it is necessary to boast, I will boast the things of my weakness.

³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, the one being blessed unto the ages, knows that I do not lie.

³² In Damascus the ethnarch of Aretas the king was guarding the city of the Damascenes, willing to seize me;

³³ and through a window in a basket I was let-down through the wall and fled his hands.
