The Lord sent out his angel and took me out of the hand of Herod.

¹ And according to that time Herod the king threw the hands to treat-badly some of those from the assembly.

² And he took away James the brother of John with a sword.

³ And having seen that it is pleasing to the Jews, he added to take also Peter—and they were the days of the unleavened things—

⁴ whom also, having seized, he put into prison, having given him over to four quaternions of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to lead him up to the people.

⁵ Peter therefore was being kept in the prison; but prayer was coming to be intensely by the assembly toward God concerning him.

⁶ And when Herod was about to lead him forth, in that night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, having been bound with two chains, and guards before the door were keeping the prison.

⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by, and a light shone in the room; and having struck the side of Peter he raised him, saying, “Stand up in haste.” And his chains fell off from the hands.

⁸ And the angel said toward him, “Gird yourself and bind under your sandals.” And he did thus. And he says to him, “Throw around your garment and follow me.”

⁹ And having gone out he was following him, and he did not know that the thing coming to be through the angel is true; but he was thinking he is seeing a vision.

¹⁰ And having gone through a first guard and a second, they came upon the iron gate leading into the city, which opened to them of itself; and having gone out they went forward one street, and immediately the angel stood away from him.

¹¹ And Peter, having come to himself, said, “Now I know truly that the Lord sent out his angel and took me out of the hand of Herod and all the expectation of the people of the Jews.”

¹² And being conscious he came upon the house of Mary, the mother of John who is surnamed Mark, where a sufficient number were gathered and praying.

¹³ And Peter having knocked at the door of the gateway, a girl named Rhoda came to listen.

¹⁴ And having recognized the voice of Peter, from joy she did not open the gateway, but having run in she reported Peter to be standing before the gateway.

¹⁵ And they said toward her, “You are mad.” But she was insisting to have it thus. And they were saying, “It is his angel.”

¹⁶ But Peter was remaining, knocking. And having opened they saw him and were astonished.

¹⁷ And having waved the hand to them to be silent, he recounted to them how the Lord led him out of the prison, and he said, “Report these things to James and to the brothers.” And having gone out he went into another place.

¹⁸ And day having come to be, there was not a little disturbance among the soldiers, what then Peter came to be.

¹⁹ And Herod, having sought him and not having found, having examined the guards, commanded them to be led away; and having gone down from Judea into Caesarea he was staying.

²⁰ And he was in a fighting-passion with Tyrians and Sidonians; and they were coming to him with one accord, and having persuaded Blastus, the one over the bedroom of the king, they were asking peace, because their country was being fed from the king’s.

²¹ And on a set day Herod, having put on royal clothing and having sat upon the tribunal, was making a public-address toward them.

²² And the public-assembly was shouting, “A voice of a god and not of a man.”

²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give the glory to God; and having become eaten-of-worms he expired.

²⁴ And the word of God was growing and being multiplied.

²⁵ And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, having fulfilled the service, having taken with them also John who was surnamed Mark.
