Chapter 2

Not in deceit. Our coming and crown

Through this also we give-thanks to God unceasingly, that having received a word of hearing from us of God, you received not a word of men but, according as it is truly, a word of God, which also is in-working in you, the ones believing.

¹ For you yourselves know, brothers, our entrance, the one toward you, that it has not become empty;

² but having suffered-before and having been insolenced, according as you know, in Philippi, we were of-good-courage in our God to speak toward you the gospel of God in much struggle.

³ For our calling-alongside is not out of wandering nor out of uncleanness nor in deceit,

⁴ but according as we have been tested by God to be trusted the gospel, thus we speak, not as pleasing men but God, the one testing our hearts.

⁵ For neither ever in a word of flattery did we come to be, according as you know, nor in a pretense of greed — God is witness —

⁶ nor seeking glory from men, neither from you nor from others, being able to be in weight as apostles of Christ;

⁷ but we became infants in your midst, as if a nurse may warm her own children.

⁸ Thus longing-after you we were thinking-well to share-with you not only the gospel of God but also our own souls, because you had become beloved to us.

⁹ For you remember, brothers, our labor and hardship; for night and day working toward the not to weigh-upon any of you, we proclaimed unto you the gospel of God.

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God, how holily and righteously and unblamedly we became to you, the ones believing,

¹¹ according as you know how each one of you, as a father his own children,

¹² calling you alongside and calling-beside and witnessing unto the you to walk worthily of God, the one calling you unto his own kingdom and glory.

¹³ Through this also we give-thanks to God unceasingly, that having received a word of hearing from us of God, you received not a word of men but, according as it is truly, a word of God, which also is in-working in you, the ones believing.

¹⁴ For you became imitators, brothers, of the churches of God, the ones being in Judea in Christ Jesus, because you also suffered the same things by your own fellow-tribesmen, according as also they by the Jews,

¹⁵ the ones also having killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and having persecuted us, and not pleasing God, and being opposite to all men,

¹⁶ hindering us to speak to the nations that they may be saved, unto the to fill-up their sins always; and the wrath came-before upon them unto an end.

¹⁷ And we, brothers, having been orphaned from you toward a season of an hour, in face not in heart, more abundantly were eager to see your face in much desire.

¹⁸ Wherefore we willed to come toward you, I Paul both once and twice, and Satan cut-in on us.

¹⁹ For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting? Or are not even you before our Lord Jesus Christ in his presence?

²⁰ For you are our glory and joy.
