Seeing Jesus in the Word devotional

Seeing Jesus in the Word

Scripture Reading: John 5:39 (NKJV)

"You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me."

Devotional Thought T.L. Osborn's life was forever changed when he began seeing Jesus in the Word — not just reading familiar stories, but encountering the living, compassionate, miracle-working Savior in the pages of the Gospels as if for the very first time. After early struggles in ministry, this fresh revelation ignited his faith: Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He saw a Jesus who was moved with compassion, who healed all who came to Him, who never turned anyone away.

Today, invite the Holy Spirit to open your eyes anew. Approach the Gospels not as routine reading, but with expectation. Behold Jesus touching the leper and saying, "I am willing; be cleansed" (Mark 1:41). See Him calming the storm, feeding the multitudes, raising the dead — revealing His unlimited power and boundless love. As you gaze upon Him in the Scriptures, something supernatural happens: you are transformed into His likeness (2 Corinthians 3:18). Doubt fades, faith rises, and His life flows into your circumstances — healing, provision, peace.

Ask yourself: Have I been reading about Jesus, or truly seeing Him? Let this be your turning point. Encounter the real Jesus today, and like Osborn, you'll never be the same.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for revealing Yourself in Your Word. Holy Spirit, give me fresh eyes to see You — Your compassion, Your power, Your unchanging love. As I read the Gospels today, let me encounter You afresh. Transform me as I behold You. Heal my heart, renew my faith, and use me to share Your goodness. In Your precious name, Amen.

Action Step

Take 15-20 minutes today to slowly read one chapter from the Gospel of Mark (start with chapter 1). Pray first: "Lord, show me Jesus." Highlight or note every glimpse of His character and power. Let it build your faith!
